I was travelling home last night from work listening to the ABC, when the Burkini had a short report about it. Now I do not want to ridicule muslim women, but I do want to ridicule the draconian dress code forced upon them. Muslim women are just as entitled to go to the beach or pool as you or I, and should not be forced to wear this ridculous garb just so they can actually swim. My second point here is that if our beloved Islamic clerics get their way, this will be the summer dress of ALL WOMEN! Now I know I will get replies saying they choose to wear it as good muslim women, and I am sure that some do, but it is amazing what an ingrown fear of reprisal, and hundreds of years of being treated little better than cattle will do. So ladies which would you prefer, because this is your future here.
My wife and I have been naturists for many years and prefer to go without clothes, but I will not use pictures of that because it may offend even non muslims, and I understand that, It's called choice, something we will not have under Islamic law. Which of the above pictures are more in line with Australian life? which would you rather wear? or been seen in, as in AUSTRALIA there is no shame in being a woman. It would appear to me and others that I have discussed this with, that the best way to fight a minority in this country is with another, and this is where all Australian women can make a difference, write to your local MPs, go and visit them, tell them that you are mad and ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! lobby your representatives that you will not accept the views of the Islamic clerics and believers who want to change our country into a Islamic State.

Enough is enough. It used to be when people moved to America or Australia they wanted to assimilate and be Americans or Australians. I am first and 2nd generation American myself depending on the grandparent. If you don't like our cultural values, then don't move here.
Burkini's is the funniest thing I have ever heard about concerning swimwear. I am going to write about it at my naturist blog at http://terracottainn.blogspot.com and give you credit. My wife and I are naturists too. Tom
why does it bother you??? I wonder!!! I don't know how to swim, because when I was in school there was no such thing as burkini and my father used to drop me to the pool for me to swim, being a 16 years old, I knew I was now an adult and felt uncomfortable going to the pool being half naked (according to me) so I used to sit in the stairs and never attend the classes, so u see no one forces a Muslim woman, my father didn't!!! it is a Muslim woman's choice to dress modestly!
and y would a muslim woman be embarrassed by burkini when you're not embarrassed of going to beach naked! u choose to go naked we choose to go covered! so whats the difference??? its about choice isn't it! if you think its "Australia" so what a hypocrisy! you can choose to be naked, but when somebody shows concern to our values and rights u have a problem!!! speak of freedom! is this what u call freedom that u want us to live the way u want us to, if a muslim woman chooses to go naked u won't have a problem, but if she chooses to cover u have a problem!! what a hypocrisy!
learn to accept people with their differences, like mature adults!
Beautiful reply sis Asalam'ualaikum :) :)

Muslimah,
I think that was a wonderful comment. I think that people should be able to observe the traditions, cultures, and ideals they want to without being attacked as long as it does not hurt others. I am so sick of all the xenophobia in these countries. Yes, when hijab or tzniut (Jewish equivalent) is forced upon a person it is repressive--but when people take away others rights to worship or devote themselves the way they want to that is also repressive. Some people just don't understand that this sort of thing is meaningful. Also, (this is just my opinion), if humans were supposed to walk around naked it would always be spring. Seriously. Humans will physically suffer without being covered, be it through sunburn or hypothermia. And that's just the practical side. :)
